Buying and managing KnotWise on the App Store

Modified on Wed, 29 Jul at 12:09 AM

If you subscribe inside the iPad app, Apple is the seller. That changes where you manage the subscription, where the receipt comes from, and who handles a refund — this article covers the App Store route end to end.

Subscribing on the iPad

Open Settings → Subscription in KnotWise and choose Sync or Share. The purchase runs through the App Store with your Apple Account, so there is no separate payment form and no card to enter in KnotWise. The plan is active as soon as Apple confirms; if it takes a moment, restart the app.

Already subscribed on another device? Then do not buy again. Sign in with the same email address — the plan follows the account, not the device. If you bought on the iPad and are reinstalling, use Restore purchases in the same screen.

Changing or cancelling

Select «Manage subscription» under Settings → Subscription. That opens Apple's subscription settings, where you switch between Sync and Share or cancel. Both plans sit in the same subscription group, so Apple handles the switch itself.

A cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Until then nothing changes; afterwards the account continues on the Free plan — see What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?

Receipts and refunds

Apple emails a receipt for every charge and lists your purchase history in your Apple Account. KnotWise does not issue invoices for App Store purchases and cannot see your payment details — we do not receive them.

Refunds go through Apple, not through us. Request one via Apple's «Report a Problem» page or your purchase history. We cannot grant, speed up or overrule that decision — if Apple approves it, your account drops to the Free plan by itself.

Bought on the web, using the iPad — and the other way round

Your account works on every device regardless of where you bought. What does not work is managing a subscription from the wrong side: a plan bought on the web is managed in the Paddle portal, and the iPad app will say so instead of offering the button. The same applies in reverse on the desktop.

Prices can differ between the two routes as well — the App Store has its own price tiers, and Founder pricing exists on the web route only. Comparing them is comparing two offers, not spotting an error.

What you get either way

The plan itself is identical. What each one covers is in What each plan includes; the full picture across both billing routes is in Managing your subscription.

One exception worth knowing: NMEA live data is part of the Share plan, but reading instruments requires the desktop app. Buying Share on the iPad does not make the iPad read NMEA.
