Installing the Desktop App (macOS / Windows / Linux)

Modified on Fri, 8 May at 4:18 PM

KnotWise is available as a native desktop application for macOS, Windows and Linux — ideal for use at the chart table, for managing your logbook in the marina, or for generating PDF documents on a larger screen.

Download and install

Downloading the desktop app

  1. Go to knotwise.app/download and select the version for your operating system
  2. Download the installer

Installation by platform

PlatformFile typeInstallation
macOS.dmgOpen the .dmg, drag KnotWise to Applications
Windows.exeRun the installer and follow the setup wizard
Linux.debOpen the .deb file with your package manager to install

First launch

Open KnotWise and log in with your existing account. If you have a Sync or Share subscription, your full logbook synchronises automatically on first launch.

Security notes

macOS

KnotWise is code-signed. On first launch, macOS may still display a prompt stating that the app was downloaded from the internet — this is standard behaviour for apps distributed outside the Mac App Store. Click Open to proceed.

Windows

KnotWise is code-signed. On first launch, Windows SmartScreen may display a warning because the app is new and has not yet built sufficient reputation with Microsoft. Click More info, then Run anyway to proceed. This prompt will disappear as the app gains wider adoption.
