Installing the Desktop App (macOS / Windows / Linux)

KnotWise is available as a native desktop application for macOS, Windows and Linux — ideal for use at the chart table, for managing your logbook in the marina, or for generating PDF documents on a larger screen.

Downloading the desktop app

  1. Go to knotwise.app and navigate to the download section
  2. Select the version for your operating system: macOS, Windows or Linux
  3. Download the installer

Installation by platform

PlatformFile typeInstallation
macOS.dmgOpen the .dmg, drag KnotWise to Applications
Windows.exeRun the installer and follow the setup wizard
Linux.AppImage / .debRun the AppImage directly or install the .deb package

First launch

Open KnotWise and log in with your existing account. If you have a Sync or Share subscription, your full logbook synchronises automatically on first launch.

macOS security note

On macOS, if you see a warning that KnotWise is from an unidentified developer, right-click the app icon and select "Open" — then confirm in the dialog that appears. This is a standard macOS security prompt for apps distributed outside the Mac App Store.

For mobile installation, see Installing KnotWise as a PWA on iPhone and Android.
