Can I Recover a Deleted Log Entry?

Modified on Fri, 8 May at 4:22 PM

Deleted log entries cannot be recovered. Deletion in KnotWise is permanent — there is no trash, undo function or server-side backup from which individual entries can be restored.

Why deletion is permanent

KnotWise is designed as a maritime legal record. The integrity of a logbook depends on deliberate, conscious entries — and equally deliberate, conscious deletions. A logbook without permanent deletion would undermine its value as an authoritative record.

How to protect your data

Export your logbook regularly to maintain a local backup independent of the app:

  1. Navigate to ExportData Export
  2. Export your log entries as CSV — this gives you a complete, human-readable backup of every entry
  3. Export your passages as GPX for route data
  4. Generate a Logbook PDF for a print-ready archive

We recommend exporting at the end of each passage or sailing season as standard practice. See Exporting your logbook for full details.

Before you delete

If you are unsure whether an entry should be deleted, consider editing it instead — update the notes field to flag the entry or correct any incorrect data. Deletion should be a last resort.

Note: Deleted entries cannot be recovered. If you are on a Sync or Share plan, your cloud data reflects the current state of your logbook — deletions are synchronised across all devices and are permanent.
