Adding Photos and Attachments to Log Entries

Modified on Fri, 8 May at 5:25 PM

KnotWise lets you attach photos and documents to individual log entries — weather observations, sail damage, anchorage shots or any other visual record worth keeping alongside your logbook data.

Adding an attachment

  1. Open a log entry — either create a new one or tap or click an existing entry to edit it
  2. Scroll to the Attachments section at the bottom of the form
  3. Tap or click «Add photo or file»
  4. Select one or more files from your device
  5. Save the log entry — attachments are saved with it
Supported file types: JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF. HEIC/HEIF (iPhone default format) is not supported — convert to JPEG before uploading. Most iPhones can be set to capture in JPEG directly via Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Viewing attachments

Attachments appear in the log entry detail view. Tap or click any photo to open it full-screen. PDFs open in your device's default viewer.

Cloud sync for photos

Photos are always stored locally on your device regardless of plan. Cloud sync behaviour depends on your subscription:

PlanPhoto sync
FreeLocal storage only — not synced across devices
SyncSynced across devices — photos compressed to max 1 MB
ShareSynced across devices — full resolution

Removing an attachment

Open the log entry for editing, scroll to Attachments and tap or click the remove icon next to the file. Save the entry to confirm. Removed attachments are deleted from cloud storage on the next sync.
