What is a Passage and How Do I Create One?
A Passage in KnotWise represents one complete leg of a voyage — from departure port to destination. All log entries are organised within passages, giving your logbook a clear and navigable structure.
Passage vs. Log Entry
| Passage | Log Entry | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One voyage leg | One point-in-time record |
| Example | Las Palmas → Barbados | Position at 14:00 UTC |
| Contains | Multiple log entries | Weather, position, sails, crew, notes |
Creating a passage
- Navigate to Passages & Logbook in the left sidebar.
- Click "+ New Passage".
- Enter the departure and destination locations, and the planned departure date.
- Save — your passage is now active and ready to receive log entries.
Closing a passage
Once you have arrived, open the passage and mark it as completed. KnotWise will calculate total distance sailed, duration and average speed automatically from your log entries.
