Offline Mode — How KnotWise Works at Sea

KnotWise is built offline-first. The app works fully without an internet connection — exactly as required at sea, in remote anchorages or coastal areas with no cell coverage.

What works offline

Creating, editing and viewing all log entries and passages
Managing crew, maintenance tasks and inventory
Viewing your map and route history
Accessing Emergency, Safety and VHF Reference information
Generating PDF exports (desktop app)

How data is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using an embedded database. Nothing is lost if connectivity drops or is never available. KnotWise operates identically online and offline.

Synchronisation

When your device comes back online, KnotWise synchronises automatically in the background. No manual action is required. Changes made across multiple devices are merged without data loss.

Note: Synchronisation across devices requires the Sync or Share plan. On the Free plan, data remains local to one device. Learn more at knotwise.app/pricing.
