Getting Started with KnotWise

KnotWise is a professional ship's logbook for bluewater sailors, available as a web app (PWA) at app.knotwise.app and as a desktop application for macOS, Windows and Linux. This article walks you through the first steps after creating your account.

Step 1 — Create your account

Go to app.knotwise.app and sign up with your email address. You will receive a confirmation email — click the link to activate your account.

Step 2 — Set up your vessel

After your first login, KnotWise will prompt you to enter your vessel details including name, type, dimensions and tank capacities. This information is used for official exports such as the Ship Dossier and Crew List PDFs.

Step 3 — Explore with sample data

KnotWise loads sample data on first use so you can explore all features before entering your own entries. When you are ready, click "Start with my own data" in the top banner to clear the sample data and begin your own logbook.

Step 4 — Add your crew

Navigate to Crew in the left sidebar and add your crew members with their roles (Skipper, Crew). Crew members can be assigned to individual log entries and included in official PDF exports.
