Sharing Your Logbook — Advanced Guide

Modified on Fri, 8 May at 4:23 PM

KnotWise lets you share your logbook with crew, family and the sailing community — as a live, read-only view of your passages and positions. Sharing is managed in SettingsSharing.

Subscription required: Public passage links are available on the Share plan. Compare plans at knotwise.app/pricing →

Web Logbook

Your logbook is accessible in any browser at app.knotwise.app — no installation required. This is the same PWA you can install on any device, and it is available on all plans.

On the Free plan, the web logbook shows locally stored data only — no sync across devices. To access your full logbook in the browser from a different device, a Sync or Share subscription is required. Compare plans →

Public passage links

Public links give anyone — without a KnotWise account — a live, read-only view of your logbook on share.knotwise.app. The view shows your passage tracks on an interactive map, filterable by season and passage. Data updates in real time as you log entries, provided your device is online.

You can create up to 5 links, each with its own label — for example, one for your crew and one for family. Each link can be activated, deactivated or deleted independently.

Creating and managing links

  1. Navigate to SettingsSharing
  2. Under Public Passage Links, tap or click «+ Create new link»
  3. Enter a label (e.g. «Family» or «Crew») and confirm
  4. Copy the generated link and share it directly

To deactivate a link, tap or click «Deactivate» next to the link — it will return a 404 immediately for anyone who visits it. You can reactivate it at any time, which generates a new unique URL. To remove a link permanently, tap or click «Delete».

What your guests see

The shared view at share.knotwise.app/p/[link] shows:

  • All your passage tracks on an interactive chart
  • Filter by season and by individual passage
  • Wind data overlay (on/off toggle)

The view is read-only. Guests do not need a KnotWise account and cannot see your account settings, crew details or any data not yet synced to the cloud.
