NMEA Integration

KnotWise supports importing instrument data from your onboard electronics via NMEA, eliminating manual entry of navigation values and reducing the risk of transcription errors.

Supported standards

  • NMEA 0183 — currently supported
  • NMEA 2000 — in development, coming in a future update

What data is imported

When connected, the following log entry fields can be populated automatically from your instruments:

  • Position (Latitude / Longitude)
  • SOG and COG (Speed and Course Over Ground)
  • True and Apparent Wind Speed and Direction
  • Barometric Pressure

How to connect

NMEA 0183 connection is configured in Settings → Instruments. Your device must be on the same local network as your NMEA 0183 data source — typically via a WiFi gateway such as Yacht Devices, Vesper or a similar NMEA-to-WiFi bridge.

Manual override

All NMEA-populated fields can be manually edited at any time. Instrument data is a starting point — you remain in full control of every log entry.
