The Ship Dossier — What It Contains and When to Use It

The Ship Dossier PDF is KnotWise's comprehensive vessel summary document — a single file that captures everything an authority, marina or insurer needs to know about your boat and crew.

What the Ship Dossier contains

  • Vessel name, type, flag, registration number and dimensions
  • Engine details and total engine hours
  • Tank capacities (fuel and water)
  • Safety equipment overview
  • Current crew list with roles and nationalities
  • Insurance and registration details (if entered in vessel settings)

When to use it

  • Port entry and customs — many authorities request a vessel summary alongside the Customs Declaration
  • Marina check-in — speed up the check-in process with a pre-prepared dossier
  • Insurance claims — provides a timestamped record of vessel details at the time of a claim
  • Vessel survey — a structured reference document for surveyors

Generating the Ship Dossier

  1. Navigate to Export in the left sidebar
  2. Click "Generate PDF" under Ship Dossier PDF
  3. The document is generated immediately and ready to download or print
Keep your vessel details up to date in Settings to ensure the Ship Dossier always reflects the current state of your vessel.
