Maintenance — jobs, intervals and the log

Maintenance keeps track of what is due on the boat and when — by date or by engine hours, counted down from your own log entries.

Creating a job

Open Maintenance in the left sidebar and add a task with a category, an interval and notes. The interval is either a date or a number of engine hours — «every 12 months» or «every 250 hours».

How the countdown works

The engine hours you record in your log entries feed straight into the intervals. A job set to «every 250 hours» counts itself down as you log, with nothing to track separately — which is also why the engine-hours field is worth filling in even on a short leg.

Overdue and upcoming jobs carry a badge in the sidebar and appear on the dashboard, ordered by urgency.

Completing a job

Mark the task as done and KnotWise records the date and the current engine hours by itself. That record is what makes the history usable later, because the next interval is calculated from it.

The maintenance log as a document

Completed jobs export as a Maintenance Log PDF from the Export page, with filters for category and date. It is the document a surveyor, an insurer or a buyer asks for — considerably easier to hand over than to reconstruct.
